About

Plain-English answers about
your rights in Aotearoa.

In New Zealand you have more rights than most people realise — when you rent a flat, when you go to work, when you buy something faulty. The information is all there on official government websites. But it’s written in legal language, spread across hundreds of pages, and hardest to read at exactly the moment you need it.

This site closes that gap. Ask a question in plain English, get a plain-English answer with links back to the official sources. Free, no sign-up.

Every answer comes from official New Zealand government websites — Tenancy Services, Employment New Zealand, and Consumer Protection. An AI assistant reads the most relevant pages and writes a plain-English answer, with every claim numbered and cited. Tap any number to see the exact source. The AI can only cite from those official pages — if it doesn’t know, it says so rather than guessing.

This is information, not legal advice. It’s a starting point for understanding your rights. It can’t make decisions for you or replace a conversation with someone who knows your situation. It covers tenancy, employment, and consumer rights only — nothing about immigration, family, criminal, ACC, benefits, or tax.

We don’t want to know who you are. No sign-up, no ads, no Google Analytics, no tracking cookies. We store a hashed version of your IP address — not the real one — only to apply rate limits. Your questions are never linked to you personally.

This site was built by an engineer in Aotearoa as a public-good project — not affiliated with any government agency, law firm, or company, and with no business model. It’s free, and the aim is to keep it that way.
